This is a test
production run of a new design using our 9260 spring steel in a
double bo-hi (fuller / or "blood groove") configuration.
Originally suggested as a design by our customers, we are testing
it in a trial run to determine the feasibility of the sword in iaido
applications.
During prototyping,
we had intended for this sword to be a blunt blade for use in kata.
The idea of the double-hi is to allow better distribution of weight,
and it was hoped that the double groove would generate a more unique
sound feedback. However,
in testing our prototype, we did not notice the benefit in weight
reduction and sound profile as hoped, so this sword is no longer
considered a candidate for the blunt iaito version.
This test run
is made using the 9260 Spring Steel and is through hardened and
is sharpened so as to allow for a variety of applications including
tameshigiri and katas. Quantity of this run is very limited and
is only intended to generate a feedback for possible applications
of this sword, which will determine if this sword will be adopted
in our regular line-up or as a blunt iaito.
The name of
this sword "Shosen" translates to "First Battle".
Below are photos
showing the overall apparence of the sword.
The tsuka is
wrapped with a black same panel wrap, and a brown cotton ito wrap.
The tsuba is a steel construction.
Aspects of the
double bo-hi is not yet fully refined and there may be some variations
on finish of the bo-hi at the distal terminal depending
on the particular smith
As noted, this
is a trial run of a relatively new design for us and is intended
to generate feedback in order to further refine the item.
Sale on the trial run is final with no exchanges or returns. Feedbacks
are welcomed and will be consolidated for review as a whole, prior
to the determination of further production runs or changes prior
to subsequent runs if there should be any.

SOLD
OUT - Discontinued. The
"Shosen" (First Battle) katana is a trial run katana using our newest
design concept of a double bo-hi. It is hoped that this configuration will have
a better weight distribution for use during iaido katas or tameshigiri practices.
This sword is sharpened to allow for cutting exercises. This
trial run is intended to determine the feasibility of the design in iaido applications
and to generate feedbacks in order to further refine the design for subsequent
runs if it is determined to be acceptable. |
