The 9260 is a silicon alloy which has a significantly increased fatigue resistance compared to standard 1060 carbon steel. The addition of 2% silicon changes the behavior of the steel drastically for use in a katana. This spring steel is most commonly seen in application on fencing foils where it needs to withstand a high degree of bend and still be able to return to center.

This is an excellent material for katanas. It is highly durable in most dojo applications and extremely resistant to bending and failures. The use of 0.6% carbon allows this blade to be sturdy enough for tatami omote yet forgiving enough to resist dangerous chipping on rigid targets.

The "Tenchi" (Heaven and Earth) katana uses our most durable material for its blade construction. The blade body is a 9260 silicon alloy carbon spring steel. It is handsomely finished with a cast brass Musashi Double Ring tsuba that is thicker than the standard steel tsubas with an antiqued finish. This sword has a heftier and more antiqued look and feel than other steel fitted blades.

(The no-fuller version blade has a more forward center of gravity heavier weight. This type of blades have more lateral strength and are easier for tameshigiri from the weight and the reduced drag. Whereas the varient with fuller is better for kata practice, the no-fuller varient is better for cutting practices.)

Constructed of the 9260TH spring steel, this Shobu-Zukuri katana is our preferred variant. The shinogi (ridgeline) of this sword runs the entire length of the blade... all the way to the very tip. This configuration results in a needle-like tip where the mune-shinogi-ha comes together to a singular point, facilitating penetration of soft targets.

The Kaze (Wind) is the result of many popular requests for a clay tempered (hardened) blade using our 9260 Silicon Alloy Spring Steel. The blade body of the Kaze is a hand clayed and differentially heat treated 9260 silicon carbon spring steel. It is finished with a replica of an antique blackened cast steel tsuba submitted to us. This steel is stronger than our Kanbai katana, but does not have the same resiliency of the through hardened 9260. The gain from the clay hardening is that the blade has a smooth and elegant natural hamon (9260 does not generate the same hamon as the Kanbai katana).

This is a trial run of our first O-Katana, in 33" 9260 spring steel. This blade is 5" longer and the handle is 1" longer than our standard 28" katana making this one VERY BIG sword. The trial run is to find out whether there is a market for such a sword or not. The sword is a heavy blade to handle, but cuts extremely well. Its length far exceeds those swords commonly used for iai so there needs to be additional care and special prior to using this blade.

The "Oniyuri" (Tiger Lily) katana is a custom made 9260 spring steel blade specialized for practice by specific ryu-ha of the Bujinkan Federation.
